When vitamins and minerals come from natural foods, the risk of an overdose is low. Many people take dietary supplements, especially fat soluble vitamins and minerals believing if a little is good, a lot should be better. While the body does not store most water soluble vitamins, it can store some minerals like iron. Excess iron usually ends up in the heart and liver. Untreated iron overload can be fatal.
