Many people believe large diameter cookware requires large diameter burners. A common negative review is smoothtop burners smaller than their largest cookware. While large burners boil water and other foods faster, they are not required for most general cooking. Gas, radiant electric, and induction stove burner sizes are independent of cookware diameters.

Politics 101: Voluntary Standards Save Consumers Money

The American Republican party claims free enterprise and business deregulation saves consumers tons of money. In most cases it is the opposite.
There is an alternative; voluntary standards like the Energy Star program. Businesses can make energy efficient products or not. Consumers can buy energy efficient products or not.
Another example is the VESA standard for flat screen TV mounting. Image if each TV had a proprietary hole pattern and mounting bracket. That is currently the case with over-the-counter microwave ovens. Hole patterns and mounting brackets are not standardized from brand to brand or even within the same brand.
Many politicians oppose voluntary standards that would save consumers money.

Free enterprise and deregulating businesses has opened the door to consumer fraud by placing the burden of separating marketing fact from fiction on consumers. In some cases, the result is a class action lawsuit that enriches attorneys more than it protects consumers. Even the right to sue for damages is being taken away by imposing binding arbitration.

A mantra of Conservative politicians is free enterprise and business deregulation. They claim it saves consumers money. Decades of free enterprise has not enriched most people. But, it has enriched some people and saved businesses money. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was 875 when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President in 1981, today it is nearing 40,000. Have you prospered from free enterprise?

Nutrient Values: Raw vs. Cooked Weights
The USDA serving size for meat, fish, and poultry is 3 to 4 ounces (113 g) raw. While cooking reduces the availability of some nutrients, it makes other nutrients more digestible.
When a restaurant lists a steak or hamburger patty size, it is raw (precooked) weight. An 8 ounce (225 g) hamburger patty does not weight 8 ounces cooked.
In several videos about vitamins and nutrients, I used raw weights. Meat, fish, and poultry are not measured using cups or spoons. They are sold by weight. Unfortunately, most Americans do not own a kitchen scale, and eat more calories and other nutrients than they need.
