Many fad diets associate painful gas, bloating. and nausea with antinutrients in plant foods. The same foods can have undigestible prebiotics know as FODMAPs. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols. Fermentation is the culprit. These carbs are poorly absorbed by the small intestine become food for gut bacteria.
Simply eliminating a food or foods with an antinutrient like oxalate or lectin may not cure the problem. One can eat a low antinutrient diet and still have symptoms.
